What is a sustainable house

These are all terms describing a house that is designed to minimize it’s impact on the natural environment; focusing on the efficient use of energy, water and building materials. But how do you build such a house? Or how do you rebuild and adjust your current house to be more sustainable?

To make your house sustainable, you should make use of one or more of the following principles:

  • The house should have good positioning and structure
  • It should make use of renewable energy
  • It should reduce water consumption and/or use rainwater
  • the right building materials should be used
  • it should achieve a good Indoor environmental quality
  • And reduce waste, while building and living in it
